The Central Council of Jews in Germany has appealed to the Israeli government to take its responsibility for the civilian population in Gaza seriously. Central Council President Josef Schuster told the »Tagesspiegel« publication in Berlin on Wednesday that »the risk of civilian casualties must be minimized in this fight against terror«.
It was clear that »the fight against Hamas is essential for Israel’s security, which is also important to us«, Schuster added. According to him, a democracy like Israel should not engage in »dirty war tactics such as the blockade of aid supplies, even though Hamas are unscrupulous, deeply evil terrorists.«
Schuster went on to say: »The Israeli government must accept that it also has a responsibility for the civilian population in Gaza. This also includes authorizing the delivery of aid.«
»The war must come to an end«, the Central Council President demanded. »As Israel’s President Isaac Herzog said in Berlin, the release of the hostages held by Hamas is the key to everything.« epd/ja
